GLOBAL TRADE GOVERNANCE

COURSE DESCRIPTION

In this course we will review the political economy and institutional framework of global trade and economic governance. We will try to understand, and deal with, current trends and challenges related to international trade and economic flows.

We will address critical topics at the intersections of trade and investment, finance, taxation, development, and trade and climate change. We will examine the basic blocks of the global trade and economic governance, including preferential trade agreements (currency and economic unions, bilateral and plurilateral arrangements), and the World Trade Organization (WTO), international financial institutions, and the G20. We will then use the acquired insights to assess the ongoing and foreseeable governance reforms.

The course is aimed at interested students from different backgrounds and will be designed with this diversity in mind. This will enrich the perspectives and understanding of us all. All students are encouraged to actively participate in class debates and group work.
